Grupo Fantasma
Grupo Fantasma
Before the Grammys, before Prince, before the Austin music awards or the international tours there was an album... Come join us as we take ya'll back to the beginning of it all! Grupo Fantasma will revisit their very first release the self-titled "Grupo Fantasma." This album was recorded a dozen or so years ago and featured the very first incarnation of the band. Grupo will attempt to do justice to the energy and tequila-infused passion, which informed those tracks and began their first steps down the path they have tirelessly traveled for the past 13 years.

Grupo Fantasma is a nine piece musical collective formed in 2000 in Austin, Texas. The band’s incendiary live show, declared by NPR as, “seamless whenever and wherever they’re on stage” has brought the band to major festivals and venues internationally including Bonnaroo, North Sea Jazz Festival and Lowlands in the Netherlands, Kennedy Center, London’s O2 Arena, Montreal Jazz Festival, WOMEX, Tempo Latino (France) as well as two tours to Kuwait and Iraq to entertain US troops. In addition, they have worked or recorded with Prince, Maceo Parker, Sheila-E, Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets, Ruben Ramos, GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, cult-hero Daniel Johnston.
The Tontons
The Tontons
It's funny. The Tontons don't have a readily available mainstream band to make an off-the-cuff comparison, so in this space we won't tell you they sound like Indie Flavor Of The Week or Noted And Weighty Classic Rock Name. The Tontons simply sound like the Tontons. That sounds like false bluster, but anyone who has been tracking them since 2008 will tell you the same thing. Up front is Asli Omar, that vocal vixen who can make men and rock nerds alike quake in their boots. Bassist Tom Nguyen, whose rumble forms the dermis of the band and then them boys Adam and Justin Martinez come in with titanic guitars and drums to make sure you are still moving your feet. This is a band that has been fully embraced by their native Houston, and the Tontons have hugged the city back with relentless gigging around town, and now it's time for the world to get some love from The Tontons.
